Toshiro Mifune awarded a star on the Hollywood walk of fame

This week saw Hollywood celebrating the life of legendary Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune by awarding him with a star on the iconic Walk of Fame.

Mifune is probably best known to worldwide audiences for his lengthy partnership with director Akira Kurosawa, which saw him appear in classic films such as ‘Seven Samurai’, ‘Rashomon’, and ‘Yojimbo’. After the pair parted ways however, Mifune continued to enjoy success with a range of samurai and war-themed films (‘Rebellion’, ‘Samurai Assassin’, ‘The Emperor and a General’), and he even made the leap stateside to appear in the American television series ‘Shogun’.

Sadly, this is not an honour that will be shared by Mifune himself as he passed away in 1997 at the age of 77.

Mifune’s life is also the subject of a new documentary, ‘Mifune: The Last Samurai’ which opens in December (more details available here).
