‘Familia’ (ファミリア) is a 2023 Japanese drama directed by Izuru Narushima.

The film depicts a pottery craftsman, his biological son who works overseas, and a Brazilian living in Japan who all try to become one “family”. The cast includes Koji Yakusho, Ryo Yoshizawa, Lucas Sagae, Fadile Waked, and Miyavi.

Synopsis: Seiji Kamiya (Koji Yakusho) is a pottery craftsman who lost his wife at an early age and now lives alone in a mountain village. His only son, Gaku, works in Algeria and is planning to marry Nadia, a refugee. When Gaku returns to Japan, he declares that he will quit the company when he gets married and take over the pottery business but Seiji is opposed to the idea. Meanwhile, Marcos, a young Brazilian who lives in an apartment complex in the next town, is helped by Seiji when he is chased by a gang. Marcos sees the image of his late father in Seiji and becomes interested in pottery work. But one day, after Gaku and Nadia return to Algeria, tragedy strikes…

‘Familia’ opens across Japan on January 6, 2023.
