‘Gobangiri’ (碁盤斬り) is a 2024 Japanese historical drama directed by Kazuya Shiraishi.
The film revolves around a former samurai who was driven from his clan by a false accusation and sets out to take revenge. The cast includes Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, Kaya Kiyohara, Taishi Nakagawa, Eita Okuno, Takuma Otoo, and Masachika Ichimura.
Synopsis: Kakunoshin Yanagida (Tsuyoshi Kusanagi) was a samurai, but he was forced out of the clan due to a false accusation. He then lived in poverty with his daughter Kinu (Kaya Kiyohara). Despite being poor, he never gave up the pride and honour that he held as a samurai. Even when playing the board game Go, which is his hobby, he always plays in a fair manner. One day, the truth behind the false accusation is revealed, leaving Yanagida shaken and filled with rage. He decides to take revenge, even if it means he will be torn from his daughter.
