Jazz Boon hits the big time with ‘Line Walker’

You may not know his name yet, but Jazz Boon is probably one of the happiest people in the Hong Kong entertainment industry right now. Boon is the TV producer who achieved great success with his 2014 TVB series ‘Line Walker’, starring Raymond Lam and Charmaine Sheh, which was HK’s highest-rated television series of that year.

Boon recently made his film directorial debut with the adaptation of his hit series. ‘Line Walker’ (the movie) sees Sheh reprising her role from the series with star actors Nick Cheung, Louis Koo and Francis Ng joining the cast. Besides being a hit in Hong Kong, the film has also stayed at the top of the box office in Mainland China for 2 weeks in a row, having grossed 478 million RMB so far.

And that’s not the only good news for Mr. Boon. His latest TV series, ‘A Fist Within Four Walls’, has again proven to be really popular with the Hong Kong audience and is giving a much needed boost to TVB’s plunging ratings in recent years. The show tells a story that sounds rather similar to Stephen Chow’s ‘Kung Fu Hustle’, and is about a group of martial artists living in Kowloon’s Walled City who stood up and fought against the criminals who ruled their city. The series has been so well-received that there is already talk of a movie adaptation and my guess is that, like ‘Line Walker’, it will also be directed by Jazz Boon.
