Cast Member: Lee Sun-Kyun

A crackerjack Korean comedy that features a wonderful double act by Lee Sun-Kyun and Cho Jin-Woong as the oddball antagonists.

Though ‘Helpless’ features characters that are genre staples the acting has enough of an edge to divert attention away from clichés. A fine thriller, a solid drama and two hours of quality entertainment.

A superb romantic drama that should delight the aficionados and squeeze a few tears out of even the hardiest soul.

It may be an award of distinction for a non-commercial director to have his film populated by bland, feckless characters and have them doing bland, feckless things, but for the viewer there’s nothing admirable about it.

This particular hybrid is a healthy beast rather than a corrupted mutant and works surprisingly well as a police procedural thriller.

It’s easy to see why ‘Parasite’ won the Palm d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Bong Joon-ho’s latest is no mere pretender to greatness; it’s the genuine article.

‘Romantic Island’ has a charm that makes it much more appealing than just a picture-postcard sent to lift the spirits would be.
