Despite ‘The Lovers’ undoubted quality, it proves to be short of the magic that it often hints at. Parts of this film therefore prove to be greater than it as a whole.

With a predictable script and some seriously under-par actors, it was never really going to amount to much more than a set of average fight sequences.

In what could be described as a mixture of Indiana Jones and well-known Hong Kong film traits, ‘The Raid’ is a very entertaining 100 minutes of action/comedy.

Dizzying, dazzling, and no doubt divisive, ‘Time and Tide’ has lost none of its verve or kinetic creativity and shows a Hong Kong master at his most creative and impulsive.

‘Triangle’ is a tense ride, an interesting character piece, oozes style and features a breathless and exhilarating last act making it an interesting and always entertaining experiment from directors Hark, Lam and To.

A great slice of suspense with three great turns from three female greats, it is a shame ‘Web of Deception’ appears to be David Chung’s final film to date.

Those expecting the typical Tsui Hark flair and innovation may be disappointed by this straight-forward comedy, but it still shows his ability to add something to even the most well-trod narratives.

‘Young Detective Dee: Rise Of The Sea Dragon’ is involving fare with enough action and impetus to distract the most critical eye.
