‘Dragon Blade’, for the most part is an entertaining ride but sways inconsistently between hard hitting period action and cheesy dramatics.

Jackie Chan is given one of his more serious roles and succeeds in giving a fine performance both in the acting and the fighting departments.

Chan tries to introduce the new quick-cut style of action alongside a significant measure of pure entertainment and humour.

Chan and Hung continue to substantiate their legendary status in the cinematic hall of fame, but it is Yuen Biao who really steals the film.

No one who claims to be a Hong Kong action cinema fan or a true Chan fan should be without a copy of this movie.

This is truly a masterpiece of the genre with Chan, who was approaching his 40th birthday at the time, on astounding form.

‘Fantasy Mission Force’ is a ridiculous film, but if you think you’ve seen every curio that Eastern cinema has to offer, this is worth watching.

With excellent action, a few chuckles and Jackie’s charm the film is an enjoyable watch.

Vitally, ‘First Strike’ is still full of the energy and invention that leaves so many other action films pale in comparison.

While there are flashes of his trademark fight scenes, it’s the fairy tale love story that always takes precedence.

By no means a classic, ‘Half A Loaf Of Kung Fu’ is still an undemanding and quite enjoyable early Chan film.

Although not a masterpiece, ‘Hand Of Death’ is a good example of how quality quickly shines through and stands out in a crowded genre.
