A modern day western with some stellar action scenes and a distinctive setting memorably rendered on screen to create a unique action film.

Melodramatic, beautiful, witty, hilarious, tragic, heavy-handed, overlong… ‘Windstruck’ is an enjoyable enigma that has enough virtues to make even a stoic critic a little more forgiving.

‘Wing Chun’ is not a bad film by any means. In fact, it is quite enjoyable, but only for those partial to Hong Kong style zany comedy, and wire-worked action sequences.

‘Winners And Sinners’ may disappoint viewers if they’re expecting to see a Jackie Chan film, but if you appreciate the talents of any of the main actors involved then you are definitely in for a treat.

With some excellent, grounded choreography and a number of allusions to genre legends this is a mature martial arts film that respects its roots.

For the most part, ‘Yadang: The Snitch’ is a refreshing spin on the gangster/drug/corruption narrative that often soars thanks to its sheer force of momentum and electric lead performance.

Despite some excellent action with Chiba on top form, it’s the unintentionally comical moments and camp overall feeling that win out.

Fierce Yakuza action from the man Sonny Chiba, ‘Yakuza Wolf’ has lost none of its power as it dishes up a hard-hitting dose of violent action and in-your-face exploitation.

‘Yellow Fangs’ is an excellent creature feature that may have slipped under the radar for many audiences. Hopefully, Sanada’s burgeoning reputation worldwide might mean that this changes soon.

Ultimately lacking in great cinematography or even much of a plot, the name of the game is to excite the audience in as many ways possible.

Kitano directs with his usual quirky measured style punctuating the narrative with his classic odd ball humour.

‘Zen of Sword’ has plenty of plot twists, but not so much as to make it convoluted. Performances are good, and the action handled primarily by Philip Kwok pleases.
