Cast Member: Shing Fui-On

What may sound like an unpleasant crime thriller because of the concept and title is actually another of the comedy films that Chow Yun-Fat made earlier in his career.

This is the ‘Citizen Kane’ of HK heroic bloodshed films and it never ages, even after repeat viewings.

What this film lacks in plot, it sure as hell makes up for in action and the finale of ‘A Better Tomorrow II’ is a brutal display of guns, grenades and swordplay.

If you can ignore some of its minor quirks, ‘Beloved Son of God’ is highly recommended viewing thanks to the wonderful and touching performances from Cheng, Wu Ma and Cheung.

It may be a little rough around the edges but its ambition and heart is in the right place and if given a chance, ‘Bodyguard: A New Beginning’ is an often rewarding experience.

Chan Wai-Man and Lau Kar-Wing do make a good Sid James and Bernard Bresslaw-type double-act. Only with more fighting ability.

An excellent set of combat sequences strung together with little reason but to get the adrenaline pumping.

‘China White’ is not as accomplished as Yu’s later films and hasn’t dated the best either but still remains an entertaining thriller with some hard hitting action scenes.

All in all, this film has little to recommend it unless you are a big Cynthia Rothrock fan.

While it may not be wholly original, ‘Final Justice’ is still a competent crime drama that has some top performances and a couple of above average action scenes.

Not the best Hong Kong exploitation flick out there and far too lethargic and serious to recommend as over-the-top fun.

It is a true genre-defining classic that will go down in Hong Kong cinema history as one of the greats.
