‘Flash Point’ isn’t a perfect film in the classical cinematic sense, but it is a damn fine action movie that doesn’t short change the viewer in any department.

A love story, comedy and action film all rolled into one, ‘Flirting Scholar’ is top entertainment for experienced HK movie connoisseurs and newcomers alike.

What Lan has given audiences is a hark back to the new-wave boom of the early-90s that, while never setting the screen alight, is mostly entertaining.

Those less critical may get more out of ‘Flying Swords’ as there is still a lot of high flying action on offer, despite it being stuffed with CGI, and the film certainly has a rich visual style.

‘Fong Sai Yuk’ may not be the best kung fu film ever made, but it doesn’t disappoint and is highly recommended viewing.

This is definitely an entertaining film that is worth catching. There is, though, the constant nagging feeling that this film could have been better.

The film though has some good special effects and does retain a certain entertainment value, but it stands as a masterclass in the way a director’s lack of self-control can hinder a film’s progress.

‘For Love’s Sake’ has sporadic moments of brilliance but falls short of being the fast, fun and feisty musical action teen romance it could have been.

Avid fans of Chow’s humour can also rest assured as this is one of his sharpest films.

Winds up being a complete mess of a movie that is neither suitable for kids nor action-packed enough for fight fans.

The humour is sharp and often hits the mark which therefore makes this one of his best and certainly most accessible films.

Ricky Hui therefore ensures that this is entertaining despite its very unpredictable nature making it an acquired taste.
