‘Chilli Laugh Story’ is pure Hong Kong, a comedy drama about those that would probably be forgotten about by other film industries.

‘Driving Miss Wealthy’ simply isn’t sharp enough or emotionally engaging enough to sustain the attention.

The main problem of the film is the lack of development for the romance; the actual feelings between the two lacks genuine heart and therefore undermines any chemistry.

‘First Option’ is definitely a high scorer on the cheese scale, but luckily it’s also loaded with some original action scenes that make it worth your while.

The film has neither the charm or magic of the original ‘God Of Gamblers’ and fails to competently put together a back story that is worthy of its hero.

Jet lacks the screen presence to hold our attention and ultimately makes the long wait between the action set pieces just too long.

Having emerged from the debacle that was ‘Kung-Fu Cyborg’, Jeff Lau returns to his beloved sub-genre of the nonsensical and it’s certainly an improvement on his previous effort.

A zippy, expertly performed romantic comedy with an abundance of style and quality, ‘La Brassiere’ is a pleasant surprise.

Lam puts a tried-and-tested couple together on the screen, fills the narrative with sweet and humorous asides and ends on an emotionally stirring reconciliation scene.

While ‘Marooned’ is never especially exciting, it is well-paced and character-driven – a trait that is rewarding for those who stay the course.

Samson Chiu can be congratulated for taking a bold step in a new direction while still retaining much of the gentle punch that is associated with the brand.

If nothing else, this film goes to show how a lack of good material can sometimes be covered over by an excellent cast.
