Undemanding fun that benefits from a likeable cast, a vibe that just wants to entertain, and lots of shiny fight action.

With ‘Five Shaolin Masters’, there is a definite impression that the great director’s inspirational ideas of brotherhood and honour are somehow diluted.

The generally undemanding nature of the film make this a definite thumbs up for genre-lovers.

‘Flash Point’ isn’t a perfect film in the classical cinematic sense, but it is a damn fine action movie that doesn’t short change the viewer in any department.

If you’re in the mood for a measure of catharsis, mid-isolation, ‘Flu’ is a well made disaster film that is just polished enough not to be too harrowing in the current climate.

‘Fly Me To Polaris’ makes no excuses for its obvious emotional machinations and a storyline clearly designed to tug at the heart-strings.

What Lan has given audiences is a hark back to the new-wave boom of the early-90s that, while never setting the screen alight, is mostly entertaining.

The film though has some good special effects and does retain a certain entertainment value, but it stands as a masterclass in the way a director’s lack of self-control can hinder a film’s progress.

‘Full Alert’ is more focused on crime and the effects of violence on the average man than it is on the dynamics of the police thriller.

‘Full Contact’ is a true action classic that boasts strong leading performances, inventive direction and mind-blowing fight scenes.

It certainly doesn’t break new ground or quite manage to sit amongst the classics, but it’s a solid and stylish gunplay flick that delivers on a number of levels.

By avoiding Hollywood histrionics or schmaltz, a well-worn plot again manages to seem fresh and deeply moving.
