Genre: Thriller

It’s hard to imagine anyone enjoying ‘General Commander’ as it’s such a sorry excuse for an action movie with no real positives to offer.

Those who give it a chance will be rewarded with a well made, at times thought provoking and overall entertaining version of a Japanese classic.

In the Kaiju genre, ‘Godzilla’ is a stone cold classic. The original monster movie is still a dark delight and essential viewing for anyone into Kaiju movies or Japanese cinema.

‘Golgo 13: Assignment Kowloon’ seems to do so much right that it makes me wonder why this wasn’t the start of a series of films.

‘Golgo 13: Queen Bee’ is a short and not particularly sweet film that fails to make effective use of one of the coolest Japanese characters around.

‘Golgo 13: The Professional’ is a truly genre-defining anime classic that is as exciting today as it was back in the 1980s.

There is some pontificating about evil and society and love but ‘Grotesque’ is essentially one long torture set piece.

‘Gun Woman’ is unlikely to appeal to everyone, simply because it’s fairly lightweight entertainment that contains quite a bit of twisted violence and nudity.

‘Half Past Dead’ is another poor addition to the rap fu genre and is less entertaining than both ‘Exit Wounds’ and ‘Romeo Must Die’, whose audience this clearly aims itself at.

‘Hard Target’ always seems to be credited simply as John Woo’s first American movie, but I actually think it is more accurately labelled as his best Hollywood outing.

As good as a belated direct-to-DVD sequel to a John Woo/Jean Claude Van Damme classic gets.

‘Headshot’ is often a thrilling ride and once again showcases Iko Uwais at the top of his game and that Indonesia is one of the biggest innovators in modern martial arts cinema.
