A love story, comedy and action film all rolled into one, ‘Flirting Scholar’ is top entertainment for experienced HK movie connoisseurs and newcomers alike.

If you’re in the mood for a measure of catharsis, mid-isolation, ‘Flu’ is a well made disaster film that is just polished enough not to be too harrowing in the current climate.

‘Fly Me To Polaris’ makes no excuses for its obvious emotional machinations and a storyline clearly designed to tug at the heart-strings.

What Lan has given audiences is a hark back to the new-wave boom of the early-90s that, while never setting the screen alight, is mostly entertaining.

Those less critical may get more out of ‘Flying Swords’ as there is still a lot of high flying action on offer, despite it being stuffed with CGI, and the film certainly has a rich visual style.

‘Fong Sai Yuk’ may not be the best kung fu film ever made, but it doesn’t disappoint and is highly recommended viewing.

This is definitely an entertaining film that is worth catching. There is, though, the constant nagging feeling that this film could have been better.

The film though has some good special effects and does retain a certain entertainment value, but it stands as a masterclass in the way a director’s lack of self-control can hinder a film’s progress.

‘For Love’s Sake’ has sporadic moments of brilliance but falls short of being the fast, fun and feisty musical action teen romance it could have been.

Avid fans of Chow’s humour can also rest assured as this is one of his sharpest films.

Winds up being a complete mess of a movie that is neither suitable for kids nor action-packed enough for fight fans.

‘Fractured Follies’ is not big on belly laughs and may not, as was mentioned, be to everyone’s’ tastes. There is, though, a certain something which helps the overall production remain watchable.

‘Free & Easy’ is a moderately amusing one minute sketch stretching to feature length and you can feel every one of its ninety minutes pass as if they’re being pulled from your own flesh.

The humour is sharp and often hits the mark which therefore makes this one of his best and certainly most accessible films.

Ricky Hui therefore ensures that this is entertaining despite its very unpredictable nature making it an acquired taste.

It’s best viewed as an occasionally enjoyable diversion that, on sporadic occasions, hints at how good a reboot of one of the 80s most iconic film series could be.

‘From Vegas To Macau II’ gets very mild commendation for a few nods to past glories and the occasional joke that doesn’t feel like waterboarding.

Packed with the deluge of banality and popular references that will doubtlessly age the film well before it’s time, this third part is every bit as frustrating and lazy as the one that came before it.

Michael Hui uses moments of slapstick, social conscience and satire in conjunction with his flawless timing.

‘Frugal Game’ is a pleasant comedy that stands out of the rest of the market because of its odd glimpse of invention.

‘Full Alert’ is more focused on crime and the effects of violence on the average man than it is on the dynamics of the police thriller.

‘Full Contact’ is a true action classic that boasts strong leading performances, inventive direction and mind-blowing fight scenes.

It certainly doesn’t break new ground or quite manage to sit amongst the classics, but it’s a solid and stylish gunplay flick that delivers on a number of levels.

The film sags in the middle and therefore loses it’s way, however it remains undemanding entertainment.
